Marwa pledges to resolve land conflicts in Lamu

Lamu, KENYA: Coast Regional Coordinator Nelson Marwa has pledged to ensure decade long land conflicts in Lamu are resolved.

Speaking in Mpeketoni on Thursday,Marwa said he was aware that land tussles in Lamu were responsible for the numerous conflicts experienced in the region.

Marwa said he would soon meet with National Lands Commission-NLC chair Muhammad Swazuri to speed up the demarcations of and issuance of title deeds for lands in the county.

“We are keen on having land conflicts in Lamu resolved.We are speaking to the NLC to have something done very soon.We want to bring to an end this rampant land conflicts and tussles,”said Marwa.

He said once the title deeds for Lamu lands are ready,he would ensure the president comes to hand them over to the residents.

Marwa also warned politicians against using land as a platform to instigate communities against each other.

“I want the county commissioner to be very vigilant as 2017 comes close. We want to deal with politicians who want to use land to confuse people and cause disharmony,”said Marwa.
