Mombasa,KENYA: Four people have been reported dead after a private car plunged into the sea at the Likoni ferry crossing channel Monday evening.
According to police, one of the casualties’ body which was identifiead as a man, was retrieved from the ocean by rescuers.
The car, a probox, is said to have reversed and plunged into the sea after the driver mistakenly applied reverse gear.
Earlier reports indicated the car had four occupants and had crossed the channel to Likoni when the incident occurred.
Police and other rescue teams including the army-KDF arrived at the scene to help retrieve the bodies.
Early May, panic gripped Likoni when a bus almost plunged into the Indian Ocean after failing to get aboard the ferry.
The bus, owned by Smart Bus Company of Tanzania, was partly submerged in water for most of the morning.
The bus failed to reach the ferry and was left on the ramp. Fortunately, no one was injured in the 4am incident.
