Mombasa,KENYA: Police in Likoni sub county have launched investigations after a police officer attached to the station lost his G3 rifle and 20 rounds of ammunition in unclear circumstances.
The officer claimed the gun was stolen after his house was broken into early Saturday.
Officials said the gun was left in the men’s room at the police station on Saturday.
“About 5:30 in the morning, the officer whose name has not been revealed was on duty, when he went outside the station. However, after coming back to his house he found the door broken and the gun missing,” said one of the officers at the station.
The G3 rifle is said to be loaded with 20 rounds of ammunition at the time it went missing.
“We are concerned about a firearm that is missing over there”. Another officer was overheard saying.
The officer lives in one of the rooms within the station and he was on night duty when he realized the rifle was stolen.
Investigators say security cameras in the main gate of the station will help in unraveling what transpired.
Reliable sources have told Baraka fm the officer involved was summoned to record a statement.
This is the second incident involving lost guns at the station.
Three months ago a police officer was killed and his rifle stolen while guarding a goods truck in the area.
Likoni police chief Willy Simba and top Security organs had an indoor meeting about the incident.
Meanwhile, four police officers have been arrested and detained at Port police in regards to the matter.
The suspects were on duty on Friday night at the time gun got lost.
Likoni DCIO David siele confirmed to Baraka FM that suspects Will be arraigned in court on Monday morning.
