Kilifi, KENYA: Police in Kilifi say they have arrested GEMA community chairman in the Coastal region Chrispus Waithaka, for allegedly issuing threats to Kilifi Women Rep. Aisha Jumwa.
Waithaka was arrested on Wednesday shortly after Kilifi county commissioner Joseph Keter presided over the Madaraka day celebrations, where he gave a deadline of Thursday for his arrest.
His arrest follows an allegation by Kilifi Women Representative Aisha Jumwa on Monday, where she accused him of threatening and cautioning her against referring to the president as ‘Jamaa’.
According to Keter, Waithaka was arrested in Nyali,Mombasa County and taken to Mtwapa police station for interrogation.
“CID officers from Kilifi nabbed him in the evening and brought him to DCIOs office in Mtwapa where he was released on police bond of Ksh. 5,000 after recording statement to appear on Thursday for further investigations.” Said Keter.
Kaya elders led by Kazungu wa Hawerisa have urged leaders not to take the prevailing peace in the area for granted.
“Waithaka should speak for himself and not drag the name of the president and the GEMA community into issues that could easily burn the region.” Said Kazungu.
