Mombasa, KENYA: The Council of Imams and Preachers of Kenya CIPK have urged CORD leaders to respect the Holy month of Ramadhan by halting their anti- IEBC demonstrations.
CIPK has called upon the CORD leaders to foster dialogue with the government through the proper channels so as to find a solution for the IEBC menace.
Speaking during a press briefing in Mombasa on Thursday, CIPK organizing secretary Sheikh Mohammed Khalifa said the opposition ought not to use people to bring chaos during the holy month.
“Dialogue or no dialogue they should not do any demonstrations during this holy month of Ramadhan they should respect the Islam religion and God,” said Sheikh Khalifa.
Meanwhile CIPK thanked President Kenyatta for putting tax exemption on dates coming into the country during Ramadhan.
“We thank the president for his proposed “ftari” during Ramadhan for poor and under privileged Muslims in the society and also the tax exemption on dates,” said Sheikh Khalifa.
Sheikh Khalifa added that the move will go along way in assisting the Muslim brothers and sisters who will be fasting during this month.
He called upon businessmen engaged in selling of dates to take this opportunity and help make it affordable for the poor people.
