Mombasa, KENYA: Patients at Coast General hospital who were unable to pay bills were on Wednesday lucky as they were discharged free following a directive from the county governor.
Mombasa County governor Ali Hassan Joho during the Madaraka Day celebrations instructed County Secretary Francis Thoya to discharge all the patients at the hospital unable to pay bills.
In addition, Joho also said all bodies that were still lying at the Coast General “makadara hospital” mortuary over lack of payment of bills, be released to the owners for burial.
He urged all the counties to improve the health sector as a way of serving people.
Joho said that Coast General has improved its services and it is now serving the whole country and thanked the private sector for donating funds to improve health.
Thirty nine patients were discharged for free on Wednesday afternoon following the order made by Governor Joho at Tononoka grounds during Madaraka Day celebrations.
