Mombasa, KENYA: Hundreds of protesters were on Monday seen waving placards reading “IEBC must go home now” in Mombasa, however the demos were short lived when police used teargas to disperse them.
Witnesses said police had earlier been seen patrolling the streets in riot gear, while businesses in town remained closed with the owners having expressed fear of looting.
Heavily armed GSU officers were deployed at Uhuru Garden along Moi Avenue where CORD leaders were expected to start their demonstration.
Police officers however dispersed Opposition supporters who had converged at Uhuru Gardens waiting for ODM deputy leader Hassan Joho to lead them in storming IEBC offices.
