Mombasa, KENYA: Police in Mombasa on Monday released Mombasa County Assembly Speaker Thaddeus Rajwayi who was earlier on arrested following the anti-IEBC demonstrations in the county.

Rajwayi was released 5 hours after being locked up at Central Police station together with Junda MCA Paul Onje.

Mombasa police boss Lucas Ogara told Baraka FM the suspects were arrested after leading illegal demonstrations in port city of Mombasa.

The police boss however noted that those arrested were also being rescued from danger.

“Those arrested were being rescued from danger .We were removing the casualties from danger,we arrested 8,we have talk to them and we are going to release them,”said the police boss.

Earlier on before their release Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho with a section of politicians stormed at central police station seeking their release.

The politicians camped outside the police station together with their demonstrators before they were allowed to converse with police boss.

The governor told journalists they will continue with their demonstration, adding that they will not be cowed by police.
