Mombasa, KENYA: Eight more members of the Young thugs and Hot-base gang members surrendered to police late evening on Wednesday in Likoni , raising the number of surrendered gangsters to 26.
On Tuesday, 19 other gang members had surrendered to security organs following police amnesty.
The police have launched an operation against gangs in Likoni sub-county so as to rid the area from the terrorizing groups.
Those who surrendered on Wednesday are three girls and five boys age between 11 and 18 years, according to police.
Likoni Deputy County Commissioner Geoffrey Omoding confirmed to Baraka FM that a team of special police officers have been formed and were interrogating the suspects.
He said the suspects are more than 50 outlaws who are still on the lose, but confirmed that those who surrendered divulged crucial information to police which could lead to more arrest.
“They were accompanied by their parents,we have taken their details and the officers from CID are interrogating them,so far they have given out crucial information to security,”said Omoding.
Mr Omoding urged parents to work with security organs to so as to help in arresting the criminal gangs as they are a big threat to the county’s security.
A senior police official heading the interrogation who wished to remain anonymous, said they were more concerned about the recruiters and the gang leaders.
He said the outlawed groups were using crude weapons like pangas and knives to terrorize and kill residents.
