Lamu, KENYA: Residents of Tchundwa village in Lamu East Sub-County are counting losses following emergence of a gang of hyenas that have been feasting on their livestock.

Tchundwa location chief Aroi Mohamed said over 100 goats,64 cows and over 10 donkeys have been killed by the hyenas in the last two months.

He said similar incidents had also been reported in Mbwajumwali and Kizingitini areas in Lamu East.

Locals now want the KWS to intervene and contain the situation and also have them compensated for the losses.

Locals said they would personally hunt down and kill the hyenas if KWS does not do something before the end of the month.

The scavengers are on the increase in Lamu especially with the onset of the heavy rains
