Kwale,KENYA: Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KERRA) has been blamed for the poor state of roads In Lunga Lunga sub-county a few days after the heavy rains.

The county government of Kwale is said to have taken the responsibility of renovating the roads despite a number of them being under their responsibility.

Nyarini road, one of the roads said to be under the custody of KERRA, is said to have been set a budget of 70 Million  for construction and renovation; but up to date the road has not been tarmacked.

Speaking to Baraka FM Kwale County Public Administration executive Nurrein Mwatsahu said they took the responsibility of renovating the roads after receiving complaints from residents that the roads were impassible.

Mwatsahu on Wednesday said that residents from the interior of Lunga Lunga have been missing some services due to the destruction of roads by floods.

Among the roads being renovated are Jego road, Ngadhini road with more than three drifts and the Lunga Lunga-Vanga road, which is said to be under KERRA.

Politicians have been blamed for continuously using various roads in the south coast as a campaign tool such as Taru Kinango- Kwale Rd and Likoni –Lunga Lunga Rd.

Early last week Vanga MCA Jerumani Makiraa made a suggestion to president Uhuru Kenyatta to let counties take care of the internal road as he blamed KERRA of failing to do so.

He also echoed Mwatsahu’s sentiments that politicians too have been using the roads as a tool in every campaign season.

Mwatsahu said the ongoing repairs will continue since rains are still expected and the budget being used is the one set aside for construction of roads under the county government.
