Nairobi, KENYA: Hundreds of passengers traveling from Nairobi to Mombasa spent the whole of Sunday night on the road, following a huge traffic jam at Makutano Junction.
The huge traffic jam is said to have been caused by an accident, which occurred at the Junction.
Heavy rains, which have been raining since late last week have also been said to be the cause of the traffic, as it made it difficult for the Police to reach the scene of the accident.
“The trailer has blocked the road causing the pile-up of vehicles on both sides of the road,” said Machakos Deputy County Commissioner George Onyango.
Mr Onyango added that the rescue efforts were made difficult by the heavy rains that pounded the area overnight.
A passenger who spoke to Baraka FM said they left Nairobi yesterday at around 9 pm and by today 9.30 am they were still at Makutano Junction.
“We left Nairobi at around 9 am and we are still at Makutano” said one Mr. Alex.
Officers said on Monday morning that vehicles were moving “slowly and smoothly” But the problem had not yet been fully solved.
