Nairobi, KENYA: President Uhuru Kenyatta on Thursday rewarded triumphant Kenya Sevens Rugby team Shujaa with Ksh 10 million for their heroic performance at the HSBC Sevens World Series.
Having failed to turn up during the home welcoming day on Tuesday at the JKIA, the President hosted the team at the Statehouse in an exuberant event.
Addressing the team, His Excellency pledged that Government will finance the team’s tours in the final two legs of the series as well as their Olympics trip while applauding the success.
‘’Thank you for carrying the day and leading our country to Glory,’’ President Kenyatta said.
He also instructed Kenya Rugby Union and sponsors to ensure the history makers get all their unsettled dues.
However, in a lighter moment though as they always do with the ball the boys did not fail but practiced the same by lifting up the most powerful man in the country.
Kenya last Sunday wrote history after they drubbed bigwigs Fiji 30-7 to become the second nation in the continent after South Africa to have clinched the HSBC Sevens World Rugby series
