Police arrest another 18 criminals operating terror gangs in Mombasa

Mombasa, KENYA: Police in Mombasa have arrested 18 criminals in Changamwe who are suspected to be members of Wakali wao and Wakali Kwanza gangs.

The suspects were arrested  in areas of Kalahari,dungaunuse,migadini and chaani following a crackdown staged by police on Tuesday.

According to a police source,the suspects who are said to be below 18 were arrested with several bhangs,changaa liquour and some crude weapons.

“We suspect four of the members are of wakali wao criminal gang but we will confirm after interrogating them,”said police source.

The source added that there is also  a gang dubbed the Spanish among the suspects arrested  which  are yet to be confirmed.

In a twist of events Changamwe Police Chief Joseph Muthee denied the arrest saying  wakaliwao criminal gang does not exist in the area.

“We have no such gang called wakali wao or wakali kwanza in changamwe,we have been only hearing from people,” said mr Muthee.

The arrest comes barely a day after another 18 suspected members of notorious criminal gang wakaliwao wakalikwanza were arrested in majengo and kingorani area.

Police found several pangas,machetes and knives from the suspects.
