National Rugby Sevens team Shujaa has been seeded top for the ninth and penultimate round of the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series to be played in Paris on the weekend of 13-15 May.
Fresh from winning the HSBC Singapore Sevens, Kenya have been paired with series record winners New Zealand, Portugal and Russia in Pool A.
This comes as the team celebrates historic triumph after they stunned the sevens world with an epic upset of Fiji in the cup final in Singapore on Sunday.
The unfancied Kenyans destroyed the world bigwigs Fiji 30-7 delivering their maiden major sevens title after losing the cup final in three previous tournaments.
Oscar Ayodi, Sammy Oliech and Collins Injera’s two tries gave Kenya a 20-0 lead at the break before further tries from Frank Wanyama and Nelson Oyoo sealed the much awaited victory.
The success saw Kenya become the second nation after South Africa in the continent to lift the World Sevens title since its introduction in 1999-2000 in Dubai.
After eight tournaments, Fiji leads the log with 147, ahead of South Africa 140 and New Zealand 135 while Kenya sits seventh on 85 points.
