Mombasa, KENYA: Mombasa County Commissioner Evans Achoki has ordered all evangelists and church leaders in the county to stop operating churches till they are allocated enough security.
Speaking on Sunday after attending the Sunday service ahead of commemoration of the Likoni Church attack, Achoki said the government would provide adequate security to all churches in Mombasa county.
“We will provide enough security to all churches,if your church does not have police officers who are manning,then make sure you liase with police or chiefs so that arrangements are made,’’said Mr Achoki.
Evangelists of the church which was attacked by suspected Alshabab militia in Likoni have also been asked to apply for security enforcement ahead of the third commemoration expected to be held in two weeks time.
Four suspected gunmen attacked the church on 23rd of March 2014 killing four congregates and injuring several others.
The county commissioner also call upon the church leaders to hire guardsmen to boost security in the churches.
He said the guardsmen will frisk the church members before entering the church,saying those with ill motive will be barred and action taken.
Achoki challenged the church congregation to exercise Nyumba Kumi initiative to boost up security in churches.
