Survivors of the Likoni church attack narrate their ordeal 2 years later

Mombasa,KENYA: Sarah Adisa Ambetsa ,Mother of three remembers clearly what transpired on 23 March 2014 at Joy in Jesus ministries church in Likoni when it was attacked by four hooded gunmen.

“It was around 10am the sermon was underway and I was the usher that day in the church,four hooded gunmen came in and started shooting randomly,” remembers Mrs. Ambetsa.

She said she was at the back seat seated;where the shooting started as the gunmen came into church using the back door when everyone were concentrating on the pastor’s sermon.

She said the gunmen shoot randomly and unfortunately she was shot twice on her left leg,but that did not stop her from looking for her family that was in the church.

“I walked in front of the church where my husband was seated and two of my kids,my husband had been shot on the chest and he was lying lifeless on the floor,the bullet had entered through but he was still breathing,” added Adisa.

“My husband tried to wave me but with difficulty,I saw him open his eyes wide open and he stopped breathing,that’s the time I knew he was no more,” she added.

Adisa who had been in cratches to aid her in walking,told Baraka FM her life had been not easy as her children look after her.

She says they have not known the truth up to now of what really happened but there were rumours that there would be an attack in one of the church in Likoni, not knowing it would be  their church.

“I don’t know the truth what happens ……but………. I cant tell”,she paused.

Another victim Diana Maloba a mother of one, has now separated with her husband Austine Maloba; who was also shot three times by the gunmen.
