Nairobi, KENYA: According to Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC),Mass Voter Registration Phase I for Lamu and Kericho Counties as well as Malindi Constituency will commence on 18th April, 2016.
In a press statement on Thursday IEBC says that the exercise will run up to 17th May, 2016. The country had conducted mass voters registration from 15th February to 15th March, 2016.
However, the exercise was not carried out in Kericho County and Malindi Constituency owing to Senate and Member of National Assembly by-elections that were being conducted in the two electoral areas at the time.
Similarly it did not take place in Lamu County due to legal technicalities that have since been resolved.
In the three electoral areas, the Commission will deploy 182 Voter Registration Assistants as well as 182 Bvr kits.
Lamu entails 10 wards ,Malindi constituency 5 and Kericho county 30 wards respectively.
IEBC indicates that registration of eligible voters in the mentioned areas will be at County Assembly Ward level following the same principle of accessibility as was evidenced in other registration areas.
Voter registration officers will draw a schedule for the movement of BVR kits which will be shared with the stakeholders and the general public.
Consequently the Commission therefore calls upon eligible voters who are yet to register in the three electoral areas to come out in large numbers to be enrolled.
It added that Continuous Voter Registration is going on at IEBC Constituency offices.
