Kwale, KENYA: Residents of Godoni village in Kwale are mourning a shocking incident of a 23-yr-old boy who passed away during the police recruitment drive in the area.
According to eye witnesses, the boy named Mwarika Rika collapsed after completing a 6 KM race at Kwale Baraza park grounds.
“He came running very fast, when he reached near the registration center he started shaking as a sign of muscle pull, the police took him to stretch his legs while jogging but it seemed so difficult for him, they took him to the Kwale hospital and after 10 minutes we were shocked to get information that he is dead,” said one of the witness.
A report from Kwale hospital submitted by Kwale CEC for health Dr. Athman Chiguzo, showed that the death might be as a result of blood flow failure.
“He had been brought at the hospital when he was in a comma. We cannot give the exact reason of his death but we relate it with cardiomyopathy; that’s blood flow failure in the heart,” said Dr. Chiguzo.
The police superintendent in charge of the recruitment drive Moses Owiti, said the boy was shortlisted to ran with other competitors for a 6 kilometer race which he completed.
“we registered the boy with other recruits in the morning, the boy ran well but on arrival at the finishing line he collapsed, we rushed him to Kwale hospital unfortunately the doctors report said he is dead,” said Mr. Owiti.
