Angry members of the public Tuesday killed a ‘troublesome Hyena” in Tana Delta area of Tana River County, after mauling to death a two year old child.
According to reports, the villagers descended on the animal and killed it moments after it was caught in a trap set by Kenya Wildlife service rangers KWS, following numerous complaints from the residents.
KWS had set a trap to capture and relocate the animal which the villagers claimed had mauled the two year old earlier this month before injuring another two weeks later.
According to KWS Tana River County senior Warden Mathias Mwavita, they set a trap for the wild animal in order to relocate it.
The hyena caused panic and fear among locals with school children refusing to attend school for fear of being attacked by the wild animal.
Cases of human-wildlife conflict are prone in the Coast region with Taita Taveta which boarders’ Tsavo National park recording more incidences.
