MOMBASA, Kenya, Jan 26 -Residents in Mombasa County have been hit by a water shortage that has persisted for over a week.
The shortage has resulted to many turning to bore-holes for salty water that is not suitable for consumption.
Speaking to Baraka FM, Mr. Shedrack Rua Nzai from Mshomoroni area says they are now forced to buy a 20 liter mtungi for Ksh. 50, that normally coasts Ksh. 5.
“The problem has been there for about a week now, and if you want fresh water you have to part with over Ksh. 50”, said Mr. Rua.
Parts of Mombasa mostly affected include: Kisauni, Bamburi, Mshomoroni, Jomvu, Changamwe, Nyali and Mombasa Island.
Other residents blamed the county government for staying quiet over what is reported as long term debt owed by the Coast Water Company, paralyzing water supply in the county and its environs.
