Secessionst group Mombasa republican council group(MRC) Chairman Omar Mwamnuadzi has been remanded at Kwale police station until investigation into his case is complete, Kwale court has ruled.
Kwale resident Magistrate Paul Mutai on Monday allowed application by state prosecutor George Mungai to allow more days for investigation officer Stephen Mule to complete his work.
Mwamnuadzi was arrested on Sunday at his Ng’ombeni home and later charged with three counts before Kwale court.
He was charged with being member of an organized criminal group, contributing and receiving money for unlawful activities contrary to the law and incitement to violence.
However, he pleaded not guilty to the three counts but the court set mention for his case to be on 29 January 2016.
The suspect was allegedly found in possession of Sh210, 200 and MRC paraphernalia with the purpose of furthering activities of the secessionist group.
Investigating Officer Stephen Muli asked the court for more time to complete investigation.
“I recovered documents from his house with the name of MRC branch officials who we want him to help us getting them,” he said.
Muli asked the court to denie the suspect a bond, saying his release would interfere with police investigation since he is the group’s chair and given the nature of the offences committed.
Mwamnuadzi opposed the police application saying he has never skipped any court cases before.
“I have two cases on Monday 25 and Tuesday 26 January 2016 which I am supposed to attend. I ask the court to allow me attend court process while at home because I am also sick,” he added.
State prosecutor George Mungai applied for the court to remand the suspect at Kwale police station as they continue investigating his case.
