EPL defending champions Chelsea beat Arsenal 1-0 courtesy of a Diego Costa goal in the 23rd minute.
Costa’s goal came after the Gunners were reduced to 10 men following Per Mertesacker’s red card in the early minutes of the game after a last man challenge on the Portuguese.
The revitalised Costa scored the decisive goal five minutes later, turning in Branislav Ivanovic’s cross at the near post to make it nine Premier League games without defeat for Chelsea against Arsenal.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger decided to replace striker Olivier Giroud and introduce defender Gabriel to compensate for Mertesacker’s dismissal.
However that came to nought as Chelsea tightly held to its lead until the final whistle.
