Kenya’ men’s handball team have been drawn to a tricky pool in the 22nd edition of the African Cup of Nations campaign cum Olympic qualifiers kicking off this Thursday in Cairo, Egypt.
The Peter Mwathi coached side, will kick off their Olympic quest with a tie against Angola on Thursday evening before taking on Congo on Friday.
On Saturday, Kenya will face off with Tunisia and then take time off on Sunday before wrapping up their Pool B matches on Monday against DR Congo.
Kenya ranked 12th in Africa, got the invitation to feature in the event by virtue of International Handball Federation (IHF) rankings.
Commenting while departing on Wednesday evening, the Kenya handball federation secretary general, Nderitu Gikaria, exuded confidence that Kenya will clinch the Olympic slot.
However, his main concern was the team’s lackluster preparations that saw them leave the country just one day before the tournament’s kick off.
The winner of the event will represent the continent in the Rio Olympics slated for August this year in Brazil.
