A regular police officer was Tuesday shot and killed by unknown assailants at Ngombeni area bordering Mombasa and Kwale.

The three assailants who were on a motorbike and armed with AK47 and a pistol shot the officer three times before disappearing with his G3 rifle.

The suspected gangsters also escaped with almost Ksh. 100,000 cash stolen from driver of a Mombasa Maize Millers’ lorry the officer and his two colleagues was escorting to supply products in parts of Likoni and Matuga in Kwale.

The driver Abdula Aziz and his turnboy Mwinyi Ali told Baraka FM that the assailants had been trailing them before the incident.

Shamsam the owner of the shop where the product were being supplied at Pungu area of Ngombeni location confirmed that the early morning incident occured outside his premise saying this was fifth incidence to happen in his shop.

Kwale County Commissioner Evans Achoki confirmed the incident saying the motive of the killing is yet to be known.

Achoki said security has launched massive hunt down against culprits but denied any link with any terror group.

He promised to open a police post at Pungu area which borders Mombasa and Kwale counties.

The incident comes few days after another driver of lorry supplying maize flour in Mombasa was attacked and killed by unknown people who later escaped with Ksh.400,000 , cash money collected on that day.
