A suspected drug addict died Wednesday after he was subjected to mob justice for allegedly stealing a sufuria of stew at Matugu village in Kwale County.
The deceased identified as Mohamed Said, suffered severe injuries which he succumbed to at Msambweni Referral Hospital.
The irate mob reportedly attacked him after they found him stealing the stew which he allegedly wanted to go and sell to raise money for drugs.
According to Mr. Cosmus Maina, the Director of Teens Watch, a drug addict rehabilitation Centre based in Ukunda, the deceased, died as a result of the severe injuries he sustained from the beating.
Mr. Maina claimed that records showed that seven youths addicted to drugs have for the past one month been attacked and injured by mobs in the area on suspicion of stealing to raise cash to sustain their habit.
However, police refused to comment on the issue with Msambweni OCPD Mr. Josph Omija saying he could not speak to the media.
