Security organs in Kilifi county has now issued a strong warning against funders of the outlawed Mombasa Republican Council MRC following reports that the group was recruiting new members with an aim of causing insecurity in the region.

The warning comes few days after arrests of 42 members of the outlawed group in Tiwi Kwale county, of which 12 were found to be coming from Kilifi county.

The role of women in recruiting new MRC members has also baffled security apparatus since for long nothing of the sort has been heard of in the entire Coast region.

Addressing members of press in his office on Wednesday, Kilifi county commissioner Joseph Keter revealed shocking trend on how women have decided to take the lead in every activity of the group.

“We happened to arrest 17 individuals who are mandated with recruiting and among them are 2 women. this was unheard of in the past but we believe they have taken the bold step as a way of chamophelaging to confuse our officers but as you can see our officers are intelligent and they are going to flash out any member of this group as well as other criminals from the society” said Mr. Keter

“According to the intelligent report we are having, these individuals have been selling these cards to new recruits at ksh100. The card calls for the members to display their patriotism while bearing “ Nchi Mpya, Mambo Mapya Thibitisha Uzalendo wako”.he added.

However, MRC officials have denied the report accusing police officers of have been using the outlawed group as easy targets to fighting some individuals with political interests in the county.

According to a senior member of MRC, the group doesn’t advocate for violence leave alone killings.

“If someone tells you that our members go about killing and causing mayhem that is a lie. We don’t advocate for any kind of violence leave alone killings. We advocate for peace and we have been asking members of public to register as voters in large number so as to have leaders of their choice” he said

According to police report, new MRC recruits are taken to Kwale county for oath taking as well as receiving some training that comes handy with mandates for each individual shortly after they are recruited.
