Mombasa County Commissioner Nelson Marwa has called upon leaders from the crime prone area of Majengo in Mombasa to step in and help curb crime and terror which has been common in the area.

Speaking  during a press briefing in Mombasa, Marwa said both religious and political leaders need to set a good example to the community in the fight against terror.

“Majengo leaders I want you to stand up and join in the fight against crime, every time we talk about insecurity in the area, till when?” Said Marwa.

Mvita MP Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir had earlier on accused Marwa of using the security apparatus to frustrate the residents of Majengo through illegal raids and operations.

He further added that the leaders should stop complaining of being attacked every time Majengo is mentioned and instead join the government in the fight against crime and terror.

“If we are supporting the government let’s support the government and not just be people who talk, just here in Majengo somebody turned a house to be an armory,” added Marwa.

Police on Monday recovered two firearms and ammunition  during a security operation in Majengo area.

Majengo  which is based in Mvita Constituency has in the past been linked to criminal gangs known to terrorize and maim the area residents and the county in general.
