Schools reopened on Monday countrywide as parents struggle to pay hiked school fees.

Parents have already  petitioned the Government through President Uhuru Kenyatta to intervene over hike of school fees in Public secondary schools.

Through the Kenya Parents Association , parents have claimed school fees were high despite the guideline set out by the government.

They have also complained of high costs of exercise and textbooks after Publishers increased the price by over 10 percent.

However , Kenya Publishers Association claimed the cost went up after the Government imposed a 16 percent VAT on publication materials forcing their production costs to go high.

On Friday, Deputy President William Ruto had warned secondary school heads against increasing school fees.

He also warned primary school heads against charging parents school fees under the current free education system.
