John Pombe Magufuli on Friday received official certificate from Tanzania National Electoral Commission declaring him the 5th President of the United Republic of Tanzania.
The President elect will now be sown in the office on Thursday, 5th November, 2015.
The commission chairman Damian Lubuva handed over the certificate to the President elect and his deputy Samia Suluhu Hassan at a ceremony held early Friday at Diamond Jubilee Hall in Dar-es-Salam.
The ruling party CCM Presidential candidate was declared winner in the hotly contested Presidential poll after garnering 8.8 million votes against his closest opponent Edward Lowasa of CHADEMA who became second with 6.07 million votes.
Lowasa however disputed the elections results over claims of votes rigging and demanded that the country’s electoral commission declare him also the winner.
Meanwhile , the country’s constitution bars anyone from challenging the presidential elections results once the winner has officially been declared by the National Electoral Commission.
Magufuli’s win now extends the Chama Cha Mapinduzi CCM’s reign to 51 years since the country’s independence.
