Kenya Premier League title sponsors Sportpesa has unveiled a new look trophy that will be presented to the 2015 Champions Gor Mahia during a ceremony set for Sunday at Nyayo National Stadium.
Gor Mahia will be presented the trophy after successfully won the league title three consecutive times.
The trophy imported from Italy measures 90 cm in height,60cm in width and is made of brass and coated with silver.
“Gor will rightly keep the old trophy forever, and the handover of the new one will be jointly conducted by Sports Cabinet Secretary Hassan Wario and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga,” said KPL C.E.O Jack Oguda.
Security and handing over
Oguda however, faulted the way the previous 2 trophies have been presented to Gor Mahia as fans invaded the pitch cutting short the ceremony.
He confirmed that plans are underway to make sure players get enough time with the trophy before fans can have a touch on it.
“We had a planning meeting with the league sponsors and Gor Mahia officials on Wednesday, and it was agreed that there needs to be a proper event where the players can get to have their time with the trophy,” said Oguda.
Gor Mahia 1st vice Chairman John Pesa said proper security measures will be in place during the match.
