Michael Olunga patched his 18th goal of the season to help Gor Mahia cruise past stubborn Western Stima 1-0 at Moi stadium, Kisumu on Wednesday.
Despite sticking with the same side that spanked Tusker last weekend, Frank Nutall watched his charges struggle to break a determined Western Stima’s defense that kept at bay Gor Mahia forwards from breaching their line.
After a 0-0 first half stalemate, K’Ogalo took the game to Stima after the interval and with Stima putting more men behind the ball and hitting on the counter aiming to salvage a point, Gor Mahia hard to wait until the dying minutes to grab all the three points courtesy of Michael Olunga who headed in Ali Abondo’s cross.
Western Stima created no threatening chances as opposed to Gor Mahia who were in control for the better part of the game but wasteful final third proved their undoing.
The triumph leaves Gor Mahia on 75th points from 29 matches and with one match away before the season’s curtain comes down, the reigning champions will be on a 100 percent unbeaten record should they win their last match this weekend.
