Former Executive Director of United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT) Prof Ann Tibaijuka has retained her Muleba North parliamentary seat in the Tanzanian general elections

She won the seat through CCM ticket, garnering 63,112 votes against 53,405 of her closest rival Ansbert Ngurumo of Chadema.

Prof Ann Tibaijuka served as the Minister of Lands, Housing and Human Settlement Development in the Tanzanian government from 2010- 2014.

Tibaijuka worked also with UN-HABITAT until her resignation in 2010 to run for a political office in Tanzania.

She was the second highest ranking African woman in the UN system by then.
