Lukeman Khatibu Mwashasha 20, suspected to be Alshaabab sympathize , was arrested alongside two other people, a woman and her son during an operation conducted Wednesday night by a special team of police officers at the populous Majengo area in Mombasa.
Police said Fatuma Mohamed and her son Mohamed Abdullaziz Abdalla 23, who have been Lukeman’s close associates were arrested early Thursday during the 30 minutes police operation.
Sources say the security officers were directed to the woman’s house at Mwembe Kuku area, situated some kilometers from Majengo, by Luqman himself.
Another suspect Ahmed Swaleh Faraj was also arrested and several crude weapons including three knives,a somali sword and jungle police jacket were recovered during the raid.
Speaking later, Mombasa County Commsission Nelson Marwa termed the arrests as a major breakthrough in fight against terrorism in the county.
“We were able to arrest one of the most wanted criminal / Al-shabaab , Lukeman , he is the guest of government now.”
The suspects linked to the terror group Al-shaabab have been in the police radar over various killings in Mombasa , including several security officers.
Police linked the young Abdulaziz to the recent killing of a police officer at the Gulf Bank in Bondeni area and the stealing G3 riffle belonging to the officer.
Mombasa OCPD Martin Asin confirmed the arrests describing Lukeman and Abdullaziz as dangerous criminals who have been terrorizing residents in parts of Mombasa, especially Bondeni, Majengo and Old Town areas.
Meanwhile, Lukeman and Swaleh were later arraigned in Court and charged with being in possession of illicit drugs and dangerous weapons contrary to the law.
However the fate of Fatuma Mohamed and his son Abdullaziz is still unknown as police continues with investigations.
