In a notice addressed to all students in the Kilifi main Campus, dated 20th October 2015, the University Senate said it has closed the institution till further notice.

The managemnt is blaming disconnection to Kilifi-Mariakani Water Sewerage Company {KIMAWASCO} by the Coast Water Service Board.

The notice required all students to vacate the institution by Tuesday 20th October at 11am.

Speaking to Baraka FM via phone, the University Vice Chancellor Proffesor Rajjab Mohammed confirmed that they have decided to close the institute because they could not keep the students without sufficient water supply.

“We have been using our water from bore holes, but it’s not enough to satisfy our many students. So as the University Senate we decided to send the students home until the water issue is resolved” said Rajjab.

One student Fausto Baya who talked to Baraka FM by phone confirmed that they have been serviving without water for more than two weeks.

“We have been fetching water from bore-holes outside the institution, which is very far”, Said Fausto
Fausto also refuted claimes that they {the students} had been planning to strike over the same.

There has been water shortage in Kilifi county for a while with allegations that the Coast Water Service Board disconnected its supply pipes to the Kilifi Mariakani Water Sewerage Company {KIMAWASCO} because of a huge debt.

Baraka FM’s editorial team could not reach Kilifi County Water Minister Kiringi Mwachitu, as all our calls went un-answerd.
