While Kenyans were celebrating Mashujaa Day on Tuesday, Lupita Nyong’o had a reason to smile as she marked her day in Harlem.

The City of Harlem honored the Mexican-Kenyan actress by declaring October 20 her day

The Oscar Award winner expressed her feelings via Instagram after revealing that October 20th would be Lupita Nyong’os day in Harlem.

LupitaThe Lupita Nyongo’s day was declared to her by the US Representative for New York’s 13th Congressional district congressman Charles Rangel.

Lupita who received a lot of congratulations comments from her fans thanked the Harlem community @MIST_harlem, the congressman Charles Rangel and office for the dumbfounding honor.

Harlem is a neighborhood within New York City that has been known for long as a major African-American residential, cultural and business center.
