Mombasa county commissioner Nelson Marwa says suspected drug barons and peddlers have been applying new tactics including using more than one name to dodge police dragnets.
Addressing the public during Mashujaa day celebrations in Mombasa, Marwa said some drug barons have gone to an extent of trying to hack police officers mobile phone conversation through dubious ways.
The county commissioner said security officers are keenly monitoring the new trends and they will arrest those behind what he termed as fishy business.
“Drug paddlers and barons are using more than one name, one is on their identity card and the other one is for recording statement when arrested so as to defeat justice, the other characteristic is they are using nick-names in their village and they own more than one passport,” He said Marwa.
Marwa revealed also that some of the drug addicts who surrendered to the police recently have been receiving threats from the drug barons.
Commissioner Marwa added that they were investigating some police officers alleged to be collaborating with suspected drug barons, warning that they risk losing their job if found guilty.
“The drug barons are collaborating with some security officers and we are investigating that case because they are caring a lot of blood money.” Marwa added.
Mombasa security team said some barons create security distortion in one area to create time for transporting drugs when police rush to the crime scene.
Mombasa governor Ali Joho said more than 130 drug addicts from Magodoroni area in Kisauni are now undergoing rehabilitation exercise in different areas while some have fully recovered.
