The Mombasa based university was closed indefinitely early Monday after students went on rampage destroying properties.
The students were protesting against fee increments allegedly introduced by the University administration.
Several students were injured during clashes with riot police and rushed to different hospitals for treatment.
Earlier th students had been given 10 minutes to vacate the University premises after riot police were called in to disperse the protesters.
Properties worth millions of shillings were reportedly destroyed including two garbage lorries belonging to Mombasa County , which were burnt.
According to one official of the students union who did not want to be named, the students were on a go slow to protest against the new fees blaming police for disrupting the “peaceful go- slow”, claiming the use of tear gas was uncalled for.
“We were peaceful but police were called in then all hell broke loose .We started running. Some students were injured in the process”, He told Baraka Fm.
The students alleged the administration increased fee on Journalism courses by an extra kshs. 5,000 and kshs. 8,000 for other courses.
Further reports indicate that the students were protesting over postponement of end term supplementary tests.
