The ruling Jubilee coalition has been accused of politically fronting for removal of Cord Co-Principal Moses Wetangula’s name from the voters register in a bid to tame him politically.
20 Members of Parliament from opposition led by Kakamega Senator Dr. Bonny Khalwale claimed the plot was aimed at taming Wetangula’s active politics in CORD after the opposition proposed an impeachment motion against the President.
Dr.Khalwale also accused Amani Party Leader Musalia Mudavadi, Water Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa and former Nominated MP Musikari Kombo of working in cahort with Jubilee government to bring down Wetangula politically, but warned that such plots will not succeed.
Addressing the press on Tuesday at Parliament Buildings in Nairobi, the opposition leaders wondered why IEBC should be reviving the case now , yet the Bungoma Senator had been cleared of wrong doing by Criminal Investigation Department over allegations of voter bribery during the 2013 General Elections.
“At what point was the investigations file reopened? Who ordered the reopening of the file? Why was it immediately after the Senate Minority Leader threatened to impeach the President?”asked Dr.Khalwale
Dr. Khalwale said the matter was concluded and Wetangula was allowed to run for a by-election following a High Court ruling.
Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar who was also present at the press conference said the plot is unlawful and will be challenged at all levels.
Kiminini MP Chris Wamalwa also warned the government against imposing leaders to the Luhya Community.
“We are not going to accept leaders who are being imposed into the Luhya community” said Chris Wamalwa.
