The CNN Multichoice African Journalists of the Year Awards gala is set to be held for the first time in Nairobi, Kenya this Saturday.

Five Kenyan journalists will be among the 24 nominated finalists who have already arrived in Nairobi for the Most prestigious African Journalist Awards.

The Five Kenyans include Baraka FM News Anchor George Otieno , Paul Kelemba and Kiundu Waweru all from The Standard Newspaper, Enock Sikolia & Charles Kariuki of NTV.

The Baraka FM News Anchor becomes the first Kenyan Journalist from the Coast region of Kenya to win a nomination as finalist in the continental media competition.

Mr. Otieno was nominated from among 1,400 entries received from over 34 nations across Africa.

The 5 minute radio feature submitted by Otieno dubbed Obstetric Fistula touched on 3 women who suffered from the condition but eventually got treatment and healed completely.

“It was my first ever entry and now I have also made history as the first ever Coast journalist to be a finalist in the…. award …,” he added, excited.

The unique feature was under the awards’ health category.

CNN Multi Choice is marking the 20th anniversary of the African Journalist Awards during the Awards gala.
