An angry mob Thursday chopped off a suspect’s hand following a robbery at Inuka area of Likoni, Mombasa.

The suspect who was in a group of three men who had earlier broke into a shop in the areas died later while being taken for treatment at Coast General hospital.

Police said the three suspects were overpowered by members of the public who caught up with the deceased, beat him before chopping off his right hand. His two accomplices managed to escape.

Likoni deputy OCPD Anthony Shimoli told Baraka FM that efforts by his officers to save the suspect’s life were futile.

“The man was pronounced death on arrival at the Coast General Hospital, I think he even died before arriving there, because he had bleed too much,” Mr Shimoli said.

Meanwhile preliminary results conducted by the doctor on the body of a kid found dead recently in a thicket at Vijiweni Mtongwe Likoni showed that he was strangled to death.

Likoni District Criminal Investigation Officer, David Siele confirmed that a special team of officers from crime unit have taken over, and are investigating the matter to unravel those behind the killings.

“Actually we are heading somewhere, so far the parents of the kid have recorded statement and we expect more suspects to come forward to do so” said Mr. Siele.

The boy who was living with his father before the incident went missing last Friday only to be found the following day dangling on a tree with a rope on his neck.
