A woman died early Tuesday after a stone mining cave collapsed on her at Shelly beach area of Likoni, Mombasa.
The woman in her 20s died on the spot An eye witness told Baraka FM the woman identified as Mwanidi Mwashala was alone at the site when the quarry collapsed.
“This place is very dangerous especially when it is raining, but what can we do we have no other jobs to do,” said Ali Juma one of the quarry worker.
It took the police more than three hours to retrieve the body as she was buried almost the whole body, according to the police.
Likoni deputy OCPD Anthony Shimoli warned residents to keep off areas prone to landslides as we approach El-nino rains.
Mr. Shimoli also said a circular had been circulated to all security agencies seeking permission to ban any activities going on in those areas.
He said a notice has been issued to the office of county commissioner, regional police County Commander, office of the deputy commissioner, chiefs and village elders so that appropriate action can be taken.
“This is real situation and nobody will be allowed to step in the quarry as soon as the Elnino rains starts,” Mr Shimoli told Baraka fm on phone.
