Police in Mombasa have launched a man hunt for three suspected gunmen who shot and seriously wounded a shopkeeper in Majengo area Thursday night.

The trio allegedly left behind the Ceska pistol with 14 rounds of ammunitions after they were engaged by police.

Regional police commandant Francis Wanjohi told Baraka FM the three suspects later escaped on foot into the streets of Majengo after the incident.

The owner of the Shop, James Munene was shot on the head during the 12.00 am incident who occurred at his Big Brothers shop in Majengo area.

He was rushed to Mewa hospital and later transferred to Pandya Hospital for further treatment.

According to the police , the suspects got into one of Munene’s Miraa shop and demanded to be given Cash ,but when the owner refused, he was shot once on the head and as soon as the  the police arrive, they left the pistol and disappeared.

“We believe the Ceska pistol recovered belongs to one of our officer who was killed in Old town by unknown gunmen early this year,” said Coast region police boss.

“The suspects also escaped with two mobile phones and ksh 3,000 cash from the owner,” added Mr Wanjohi.

Majengo area has of the recent past been on the limelight over insecurity in Mombasa.
