Constable Simon Lochodo was shot and killed outside Gulf bank in Bondeni area by unknown gunmen Friday afternoon.
The officer was pronounced dead few minutes on arrival at Pandya Hospital.
The incident occurred at the same place where another police officer was shot and seriously wounded a month ago by unknown gunmen who also escaped into the streets of old town.
Sources told Baraka FM the officer who was manning the bank together with his colleague was attacked by three suspected gunmen who grabbed his G3 riffle and later shot him on the head.
“I saw three men walking towards the bank, the police officers manning the bank were two ,one was seated at the other end and another one was not around, the gunmen grabs the gun but when the officer resist, he was shot on the head,” said the officer.
The motive of the killings was not clear, but sources within police suspect the attackers to be Alshaabab sympathizers.
Meanwhile, Coast Regional Police Commandant Francis Wanjohi confirmed they have arrested four suspects along the streets of Old Town who are helping police with investigations.
“We have four suspects now and we are hunting for the other two who escaped, Bondeni is a small area, we will do what it cost to recover the stolen firearm,” said Mr Wanjohi.
Wanjohi however denied that the attack was carried out by suspected Alshaabab sympathizers saying the incident was a normal robbery which they are still investigating.
The killing of the officer comes barely some hours after a Ceska Pistol was recovered in Majengo area with 14 rounds of ammunition.
