Juan Mata and Chris Smalling were on target as Manchester United pick their first Champions league victory since 2014 after beating stubborn Wolsfburg 2-1 at Old Trafford on Wednesday night.
The Red Devils fell behind in the fourth minute after Daniel Caligiuri fired the visitors in a shock lead following deffensive error by the host that saw Antonio Valencia play the latter onside in what seems to be an offside trap build up.
Juan Mata converted from the penalty spot to equalize for United after Caligiuri handled in the box, before flicking the ball over Wolsfburg defenders for Smalling who netted in with ease to put United 2-1 up.
The visitors pushed hard for a leveller but United deployed numbers behind the ball as they held on to collect maximum points.
Elsewhere, Christiano Ronaldo scored his 500th career goal as Real Madrid down Malmo FF 2-0.
Manchester City rallied from a goal down to beat hosts Borussia Monchengleback 2-1, while Juventus edged out Sevilla 2-0.
PSG were 3-0 winners over Shaktar Donestk, while CSKA Moscow humbled PSV Eindhoven 3-2.
