The 11 were accussed of participating in unlawful demonstration while protesting delay of their HELB loans on Tuesday.
Senior Principal Magistrate Martha Mutuku released each on a sh.50,000 bond plus 1 surety or a cash bail of sh. 20,000.
‘There was no malicious damage and traffic was flowing smoothly during the demonstrations. The students protested because the HELB loan was delayed and this has caused them to miss one year of school. The students will have to repeat their exams. Kindly consider this since they are students who are willing to co-operate in this case,’ their lawyers argued.
However , Prosecutor Duncan Ondimu told the court that the suspects’ conduct did not portray aspect of peaceful demonstration. ‘ They had no authority to engage in such activities.Terms for their bond should be stringent to avoid such incidences from occurring next time.” the prosecutor continued.
