Kenya’s hopes of clinching this year’s East Africa Secondary School games EASS trophy in soccer, Girls category were doomed after Wiyeta Girls lose 2-0 to Burundi’s ECOTEC in the finals as the one week competition held in Rwanda climaxed on Sunday.
Wiyeta headed into the finals favorites having beaten their opponents 3-1 in the preliminaries but a brace from Ndoreraho Florence in either half is all that ECOTEC needed to emerge victors over the Kenyan Champions.
In their enroute to the finals Wiyeta finished runners up in Pool A before thumping Rwanda’s ES Mutunda 3-0 in the semi finals on Saturday to qualify for the finals.
In Boys category Uganda’s Masaka triumphed Allianze from Tanzania 4-2 to become the new EASS champions. The match had to be decided on penalty shoot outs after a 2-2 draw in regulation time.
Masaka becomes the second Ugandan team to claim the maiden in a span of three years after St. Mary’s Kitende won it 2013 and 2014 successively.
With the competition coming to an end on Sunday, Kenya was handed the EASS flag to hosts the next edition.
