Kenya Defence Forces KDF Friday blew up a vessel intercepted shipping illicit drugs worth kshs. 29 Million off the Kenyan Coast last year .
Baby Iris yatch registered in Britain has been under KDF guard at Mombasa Port police and was blown up in the deep sea exactly at 1:33 pm on Friday.
Cabinet secretary for internal security Joseph Nkaissery, permanent secretary Monica Juma, inspector general of police Joseph Boinett and other security personnel accompanied the Kenya Navy ship JASIRI to the deep sea for the destruction of the heroine and its vessel.
Also present during the exercise was National Campagin Against Drug Abuse (NACADA)Director Juma Ngao.
Nkaiserry said illicit drugs would be destroyed together with the vessel be it Motorcycle, Vehicle , Ship or even Aeroplane to serve as a deterrent to drug lords.
Nkaiserry said Kenya would not be used as a transit point nor as a drug trafficking base.
“As a government we are sending out a strong message to drug traffickers the merchants of evil keen on destroying our youths while at the same time funding unscrupulous activities that pause a threat to security”said CS.
Nkaiserry said over two million people are drug addicts countrywide
“If we knew the owners of the vessel we could have gone for them, and you see they have not come forward to claim the vessel and that’s why we destroyed the vessel” said Nkaiserry.
