Seven pupils of St Martin primary school in Murang’a have been confirmed dead after drowning in Diani Kwale County while swimming in the Indian Ocean Wednesday evening.
Reports indicate the primary school pupils drowned following heavy tidal waves which swept them deep into the Ocean.
The incident occurred Wednesday evening as the pupils who were on holiday in the Coast, enjoyed themselves in the Ocean.
Fifty six pupils from the school were on holiday in Diani, when tragedy struck.
Reports indicate the Pupils who were to sit for KCPE in November this year, were swimming without any supervision from Life Guards.
Sources say all 7 bodies of the pupils aged between 13 and 15 years have been retrieved despite the adverse weather conditions affecting rescue operations.
Kwale County Commissioner Evans Achoki said the bodies were taken to Msambweni District Hospital mortuary.
