Police impounded the lorry belonging to Lamu West Member of Parliament Julius Ndegwa early Wednesday while ferrying bhang from Mombasa to Lamu County.
A police officer who did not want to be named said the Mitsubishi Canter of registration number KBY 986Z was impounded at a police roadblock in Witu at around 9am Wednesday.
Police recovered 390 big rolls of Bhang and 24 sachets of Heroine with the bhang estimated to be worth over Sh.150, 000.
All occupants of the vehicle including the lorry’s driver Martin Mureithi Njuguna, a turn boy Kahuki Kanyinge and a passenger who is also suspected to be the owner of the narcotics Joseph Gathunga Mbugua were arrested.
Ndegwa however confirmed ownership of the vehicle and called for the quick prosecution of the three saying the incident had put his name in bad light.
He said no one had the right to involve his property in this case .
“Yes, the vehicle is mine. It’s a lorry canter for hire. The three should however face the law for ferrying drugs and for using my vehicle in their dirty business. They should face the law. Thats is a vehicle that is to be hired for legal businesses and not this,” said Ndegwa
The three are currently being held at the Mpeketoni police station as they wait to be charged at the Lamu courts.
